Library Showcase: Maxwell Memorial Library

Recent renovations at 100 year old Maxwell Library make this friendly, welcoming place for summer reading.  Then grab a bench at the park and read by Nine Mile Creek- ah summertime!

Maxwell Memorial Library serves the Town of Camillus, on the western side of Onondaga County. Founded in 1922, Maxwell is housed in a circa-1868 former church on the corner of Genesee and Leroy streets in the village of Camillus. We offer a wide variety of contemporary materials, programs and services:
  • An in-depth collection of best-selling books in print, audio and digital formats
  • Popular DVDs and streaming movies
  • Children’s materials, computers, story times, and creative activities
  • Free public computers and wi-fi access
  • Digital and print periodicals
  • Extensive research materials online and in print
  • Informative, educational and entertaining programs for adults, teens and children
The library offers opportunities to become involved with book clubs, preschool and toddler story times, volunteer service, and an active Friends group that supports the library through regular fundraising events. Maxwell also has an excellent summer reading program for babies through teens, with the ever-popular Wild Wednesday family nights. All activities, programs, and services are free.
Our Community Room and a study are available for meetings, tutoring, and other small-group gatherings. After the current renovation project is complete in late 2016, we’ll have an additional study and two flexible-use meeting spaces for individuals and groups to use.
Maxwell Library’s “digital branch” offers patrons downloadable ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, movies and music. On site, patrons can use computers and tablets, check out ereaders and tablets to take home, and make an appointment with tech-savvy staff to help you use your electronic devices.

Library Showcase: Solvay Public Library

Its facility is a local historic landmark completed in 1905 and was constructed through grants from Andrew Carnegie and the Solvay Process Company, predecessor to AlliedSignal, Inc. and Honeywell.  The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The library is located at the corner of Woods and North Orchard Roads in Solvay, New York, near the New York State Fairgrounds.   Its collection contains more than 30,000 books and includes circulating magazines,  DVDs, audiobooks, Playaways, and music CDs.  Computers for public use and Internet access are available, as well as WiFi (wireless) access.
The Library is home to the archives of the Solvay Process and has special collection material related to the remediation of Onondaga Lake.  The Local History room also houses archives of the Solvay Union Free District and some local history materials.  Use of the room is possible by appointment only (see the Local History section of the Solvay website).
In 2008, the Village of Solvay completed a $3 million renovation and expansion to the Solvay Public Library.  The Library now boasts an elevator, new meeting rooms, and enlarged reading and children's rooms.

Library Showcase: Fairmount Community Library

This one is the closest to my home, so I go there more than any other branch.  Although it's only about 3000 sq ft, the staff have no problem handling my many inter-library loans (sometimes half a dozen or so).  In recent years they have added more toddler story-times to serve our younger readers.  Here's some more info:
